Unfortunately, most of us know how to eat badly without much effort. For some bizarre reason, we seem to enjoy the foods that are bad for us and think healthy, nutritional foods are boring or plain. However, give yourself a chance to learn how to eat well, eat healthy, and provide your body with the nutrition, vitamins and minerals that it needs to make you feel great, every day.
It's hard for many of us to resist sugar, fast food hamburgers and French fries, ice cream, and cake. No doubt about it, we've all gotten used to eating certain foods, and we enjoy their taste, especially if we're upset or depressed. Many of us eat badly because we don't plan our meals, or we work long hours and find it easier to drive through our nearest fast food restaurant on the way home than take the time and effort to cook a decent meal from scratch.
Unfortunately, our bad food dietary habits have led to alarming rates of obesity, increasing statistics of diabetes, heart disease, intestinal diseases and liver failure. Is it too late to learn how to eat well? Never!
Learning how to eat well involves a little bit of time and effort in learning to make healthy food choices, such as foods rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals, enzymes, and healthy fatty acids and carbs. This doesn't mean you have to turn into a vegetarian, or will never be able to enjoy a cup of coffee or soda again. However, it does mean taking control over your bad eating habits and learning how to eat properly in order to optimize your health, fitness, energy levels, and mental outlook.
Foods high in grease, fat, carbs and sugars make us feel sluggish. They slow down our thinking processes, and at times cause depression and moodiness. Good foods on the other hand, optimize mental stimulation, energy, and metabolism to make us feel our best every day.
Good foods are those that are rich in natural vitamins and minerals and are found in their natural state. Fruits and vegetables are excellent choices for such products and are a great place to start on a healthy eating strategy. If you're a meat lover, you'll need to slowly wean yourself away from those Ribeye stakes and choose leaner cuts of meat such as chicken and turkey and ocean fish. Eventually, work those out of your diet as well, and stick to cold-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines for optimal nutritional value and proteins rich in healthy fatty acids and omega-3s.
This may seem overwhelming at first, but if you take it one step at a time, you'll find yourself on the right track with little fuss and frustration. Don't try to change your entire dietary eating habits at once. Start by trying to eliminate sugars from your diet (and that includes artificial sweeteners as well).
Many people mistakenly think that if they switch from white flour to wheat flour, or from white bread to wheat bread, that they're doing themselves a favor, but refined wheat products don't offer as many health benefits as you are led to believe. Refined wheat products convert to sugar very quickly, so try to avoid those as well. Instead, switch to grains such as buckwheat, quinoa, and millet.
Whenever possible, choose organic foods, or better yet, grow your own vegetables. Drink plenty of water and natural fruit juices rich in vitamins and minerals. Such foods are excellent for digestive health and reduce the amount of effort that your liver, pancreas, stomach and intestines need to digest and absorb nutrients into your body.
Remember, take it one step at a time, learn about good foods and how they benefit your physical, mental, and emotional states of mind, and you'll be amazed at how good you feel in a very short period of time.
