Because your body is in a state of malnutrition!
Here's the problem, though: Because of decades of bad farming practices and food processing, you will never get all of the vitamins and minerals you need from a standard diet, which means you'll forever have cravings. And, those cravings, more often than not, lead to overeating...and weight gain.
"Research Tidbit" boxes like the one below containing very specific information and quotes gleaned from some spectacular health professionals I've learned from over the years.
Research Tidbit #1: People Are Like Rats
From Mike Adams "Health Ranger":
"Human researchers are fascinated by the behavior of lab rats in response to food rewards, but few humans are willing to closely examine their own behavior in relationship to sugar. Most people living in Western societies (the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, etc.) are truly addicted to sugar, and they use it as a form of self-medication to temporarily boost their mood and energy. The frequency and context in which these people press a button on a soda machine is eerily similar to the way rats press a lever to produce a food reward."
How's that for an eye-opening idea? Are you a lab rat? Are you hitting the button on the soda or snack machine? That machine or snack aisle in the grocery store seems to call to you and you find yourself reaching out, just like that rat reaching for the food reward button. Uh-oh, you're addicted! Adams actually calls sugar a "legalized recreational drug." He says that just like other drugs--cocaine, marijuana, heroin, crack--it "destroys a person's health over time, rotting out their teeth, disrupting normal brain function, promoting heart disease, and directly causing diabetes and obesity." Need another good reason to cut sugar from your diet?
Let's talk about diabetes.
According to Nancy Appleton, PhD, the author of "Lick the Sugar Habit," there are 78 metabolic consequences of consuming sugar-and one of the leading ones is diabetes.
Research Tidbit #2: Diabetics Have Starved Cells
From Bruce Fife, ND:
"Diabetes is all about sugar--the sugar in our bodies is known as blood sugar or blood glucose. Every cell in our bodies must have a constant source of glucose in order to fuel metabolism. Our cells use glucose to power processes such as growth and repair. When we eat a meal, the digestive system converts much of our food into glucose, which is released into the bloodstream. The hormone insulin, which is secreted by the pancreas gland, moves glucose from the blood and funnels it into the cells so it can be used as fuel. If the cells are unable to get adequate amounts of glucose, they literally starve to death. As they do, tissues and organs begin to degenerate. This is what happens in diabetes." Degenerating organs-that's scary stuff! Sadly, there's an enormous population struggling with diabetes. According to James Howenstein, author of "A Physician's Guide to Natural Health Products that Work," since 1980, the rate of diabetes has risen from just 2.8 people in every 100,000 to a whopping 10 percent of the total population!
If the thought of diabetes still isn't enough, how about the fact that consuming sugar can actually have a negative affect on your love life?
Research Tidbit #3: Sugar Could Ruin Your Sex Life
From Anne Marie Colbin, author of Food and Healing:
"There is some evidence that a high consumption of sugar-sweetened foods may lead not only to impotence and premature ejaculation, but to unrealistic sexual attitudes and expectations, strong urges, strange fantasies, and even crimes of sexual violence."
If you want to turn off your sugar cravings for good, before you go from irritable to violent, you will have to change your eating habits and enrich your diet with vitamins, minerals, and other healthy natural supplements.
