At many of the workshops I have presented the last few years, I have often mentioned how important it is to find good mentors in life to help us grow. Well... my In-laws have been among my most important mentors. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law passed away this past week.
I do give thanks to both of them for being such an inspiration in the lives of both my husband and me. What a gift to have them around us for so long. So knowledgeable and caring, and such humble individuals. They have guided me throughout my career. They were both health practitioners and even owned a health food store 45 years ago!! You can just imagine how hard they had to work to educate and guide people at that time.
My mother-in-law gave me a champion juicer 21 years ago. What a gift! As you know, we still juice as of this day.
One of their secrets for longevity and remaining so active was their lifestyle: They have always exercised regularly (walking 5-6 miles daily on the beach) and eaten a very light dinner. Juicing and blending was a big part of their diet.
At 80 years, Mr. Desjardins is still very active. He always makes people feel so good about themselves. He has such an amazing attitude towards life. He said that the best part with his wife was having sex sometimes on the beach!! At 80yrs! That's the kind of attitude he has...I'm not sure which herbs he was using at the time.
When we left Monday morning he said, "If God allows me to be on this planet for another 10 years I'll be very happy because I still have lots do."
Here's what we do mornings when we visit them -- their kitchen is my kitchen, and I always feel at home there.
Aloe Vera potion
1/2 cup Aloe Vera fresh from the garden
1 organic cucumber
the juice of 1 lemon
water
This is our drink first thing in the morning. So refreshing and cleansing.
This is a picture of Mr Desjardins cutting aloe vera leaves from one of the 50 aloe vera plants in the backyard :) Such a healing plant to have around.
Everything I've learned in the health industries I owe to them!
I gave thanks for their input, advice and guidance, and for the many years we had with my mother-in-law.
