It may seem silly, but one reason many women over 40 never maintain their weight loss goals is because they are afraid of success. It is easy to get caught up in the short term goals of losing 5, 10, or even 50 pounds and forget to consider what the plan is once you can actually fit into that perfect swimsuit again. It’s one thing to throw yourself a party to celebrate your success, but it is quite another to allow yourself to become the balloon… and blow right back up to where you started.
Maintaining your goal weight is best achieved by making sure you balance your mind, body, and spirit. When one of these areas is lacking, old habits have a way of sneaking right back in to take its place.
Let’s take it from the top. Your mind is one of the most powerful tools you have at your disposal. Have you made the decision that the changes you’ve implemented are for life? What are you hoping to achieve by reaching your goal weight? Health? Self esteem?
Losing weight is not a cure-all, so unless you want to be disappointed it’s best to be realistic. What are some things that won’t be achieved?
Your body will still need attention once you reach your goal weight as well; and I’m not just talking about the hours upon hours you’ll want to spend in front of the mirror admiring your new physique. Make sure you continue to schedule exercise into your daily routine.
And finally, you need to dig deep down into your soul. Find that place inside yourself where you truly believe that you can not only lose the weight, but you can keep it off.
Ponder each and every step of each and every day, and let me know when you get there!
